Writing the Dialogue for the Leaving Cert Exam can be a bit confusing, here is an easy example to help you make sense of all the things we saw in my last post. (I explained HOW to write a great Dialogue so, if you have not read it I suggest go check it now. I promise not to bore you)
You have been invited to a wedding in Spain. You go to El Corte Inglés to buy a present.
Buenos días. ¿En qué puedo ayudarle?
Tú: Explain that you have been invited to a wedding but you are not sure what to buy. Ask if people in Spain spend a lot of money on presents.
Buenos días. Me han invitado a una boda y quisiera hacerles un buen regalo pero no sé qué comprar ¿Los españoles suelen gastar mucho dinero en regalos?
Depende, señor.
Tú: Say you find it difficult to save money because the cost of living is high in Madrid. Nevertheless, you would like to buy the bride something nice.
Me resulta difícil ahorrar dinero porque el coste de vivir en Madrid es muy elevado. Aun así, me gustaría comprarle algo bonito a la novia.
¿Su amiga es española?
Tú: Tell her they are still studying and when they finish they will decide what to do. They would love to stay in Madrid if they could get good jobs.
De momento están todavía estudiando así que cuando terminen decidirán qué hacer. Si pudieran conseguir empleos decentes, les encantaría quedarse en Madrid
¿Van a vivir en España?
Tú: Tell her she is Irish and that she fell in love with a Spaniard when she came on an exchange. You hope they will be very happy.
No, ella es irlandesa pero vino a España en un intercambio y se enarmoró de un chico español. Espero que sean muy felices.
¿Y a qué hora es la boda?
Tú: You were very surprised at the time of the wedding: it’s at 7.00 pm, with the reception at 9.30 pm. Weddings in Ireland normally begin much earlier

Pues me sorprendió mucho cuando me lo dijeron, la ceremonia es a las siete de la tarde y el banquete a las nueve y media de la noche. Las bodas en Irlanda suelen empezar mucho más temprano.
